Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear for the trail ride?

We ask that you wear long pants and closed-toe shoes for the trail ride. Helmets are mandatory and provided for riders under 18.

We know you may wish to wear a cowboy hat to complete the experience...we get it partner! Please understand that we require any hats other than baseball caps to have a stampede strap attached. Those hats will fly off!

We also provide saddle bags to carry your wallets, keys, phone or camera,  water bottles and snacks. 

We suggest you layer up, big bear is known for all different types of weather with the occasional wind gusts. A light sweatshirt or jacket just in case, you can always leave it with a staff member if you decide you don't need it. 

What is the age requirement for horseback riding?

Minimum age for riders is 7 years old and 4ft. Tall to  take a trail ride. Children under 18 will be provided helmets. No double riding. 

Are the pony rides suitable for all children?

Our pony rides are suitable for children under 70lbs. A certain weight and height limit applies to all our horses and ponies. Please check with our staff for more information.

Can I bring my own horse for the ride?

Unfortunately, we do not allow outside horses for our guided trail rides. Our horses are well-trained and suited for the terrain. We also do not allow dogs on the property for the safety of our animals and guests, so please leave fluffy Fido at home during your visit with us. 

Do you have food or alcohol available for purchase?

No, we do not offer food or snacks here at Baldwin Lake Stables, and alcohol is prohibited on our property and not allowed in rides. 

We reccomend bringing snacks and plenty of water to stay hydrated during your ride. We provide saddle bags for your convenience to take along with you.

Is Parking free at the stables?

Yes! We offer free parking in your main parking lot. 

Are there restrooms available?

Yes. We have restrooms available for our guests. You can even change in them if needed.
